Our Work

The Banco del Barrio Program

The neighborhood bank program promotes sustainable social and economic development of existing entrepreneurs through micro-loans and robust programs. Key aspects which make this program successful include:

  • Seeding micro-loans to well-established, small business owners in Colombia
  • Establishing individual credit though banks
  • Utilizing a disciplined program involving mentoring and accountability
  • Augmenting business skills which will enable their businesses to flourish

Most of the businesses focus on food and beverages, beauty services, and clothing.  Other business sectors span communications, technology, supplies, and transportation.  Almost 70% of our business owners are women.

Banco Del Barrio has gained a reputation as a valuable program throughout Cartagena.    Local barrio leaders are reaching out to us to bring the program in their neighborhoods, thus offering their residents an opportunity to be economically self-sustaining.
